1:45pm ET: With Sandy freshly on their minds, residents of the New York and Boston have begun to clean out grocery store shelves in advance of the storm. Bread—always the first to go. But Bananas?!

1:30 pm ET: New Yorkers can track the city’s plow trucks status using its new website, PlowNYC. Mayor Bloomberg announced the city has 1,700 plows ready to go.

1:20 pm ET: New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, wearing an attention-grabbing red sweater in a press conference this afternoon, said New Yorkers can expect the heaviest snowfall to hit the area starting at 3 pm ET and continuing through 7 pm ET. He also said not to touch downed power lines and call 311 if help is needed. For those affected by Sandy, the mayor said to call 311 if you’re still without heat. Also: stay off of the streets.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, wearing a red sweater, said forecasters expect 10-14 inches of snow in NYC.

1:10 pm ET: Boston has announced an emergency travel ban meant to keep non-essential drivers home and off of the roads. The penalty for driving after 4:00 pm is up to a year in prison (!) and a $500 fine. It is the first travel ban in Massachusetts since the Blizzard of 1978.
